About UASBC

About Us

The Underwater Archaeological Society of British Columbia is a group of avocational archaeologists, historians and divers dedicated to researching, locating, identifying, surveying, and protecting the maritime heritage of Canada’s westernmost province. We are people who are passionate about exploring history and exploring our oceans, lakes and rivers. Since 1975, the UASBC has been committed to this task for the interest, education and benefit of all British Columbians, present and future.

What We Do

The UASBC’s core activity is searching for and documenting all kinds of underwater cultural heritage sites. Our work leads directly to protection of these sites under the Province’s Heritage Conservation Act. To achieve our goals, the UASBC teaches Underwater Archaeology for Divers (UAD) – a 2 day course we designed ourselves to prepare divers to safely and effectively record sites, manage projects and conserve artifacts.

Our Members

The UASBC is virtually an all-volunteer organization. The members promote non-intervention and conservation as the absolute best way to preserve the Province’s maritime heritage for future generations.

Join us to help promote and protect British Columbia’s underwater heritage! UASBC members get access to our quarterly publication, The Foghorn, a discount on the UAD course and access to affordable exploration dive charters. Membership dues support ongoing archaeological research and exploration. Click the link to sign up today!
